A new tradition

Built for Tamil weddings, the smaller family rituals, and the days between.

01

Modern, by intent.

Floating timber, warm white, a coral plinth. Calm enough for the muhurtham, big enough for the reception, and built with the photographer in mind.

02

Kumbakonam, by address.

Two kilometres from the Swamimalai Murugan temple, two and a half from the Airavatesvara temple at Darasuram. The town the Cholas built does the heavy lifting. We are only the hosts.

03

Family, by feeling.

One coordinator from the first call to the last car out, and your family known by name at the door. We host the wedding so you can host the family.

The Hall

Four thousand square feet,
without a column in sight.

The mandapam is pillarless on purpose. The muhurtham photo holds every relative in the frame with no granite in the way. Kumbakonam families used to drive to Thanjavur or Trichy for a hall like this.

The Stay

Twenty rooms,
under the same roof.

No shuttles, no late-night drive back to a hotel across town. Guests walk from the hall to a made bed without going outside. That is what makes it work as a destination wedding in Tamil Nadu: the celebration and the stay on the same grounds.

Every ceremony
has its season.

The engagement, the wedding morning, the bangle ceremony, the reception that runs late. The hall is set for each of them.

The J + S story

Two letters.
One family.

JS Grand is a family endeavour. A hall built for the weddings we ourselves grew up attending in Kumbakonam.

The town has been marrying people off since the Cholas. Sarangapani Temple was old before most countries were countries, and the agraharam streets around the tank have seen more saptapadis than the rest of us will see sunrises. We did not invent any of this. We just chose to host inside it.

The hall borrows its restraint from the temples around it. Stone, light, and the sense to leave room. Older mahals reached for gilt and mirror; we went the other way, towards warmth and air and space to breathe.

We host the wedding. You host the family.
